Audi rewrote the supercar rulebook by combining sublime handling and usability in the original R8. The new Audi R8 gets an aluminium and carbon-fibre hybrid chassis, shared with the Lamborghini Huracán, and will stick with a choice of V8 and V10 engines with an S tronic twin-clutch box as standard. However, Audi plans to shake up the supercar class with an all-electric e-tron version. Previewed by 2009’s concept, this will cover up to 250 miles on a single charge, bosses claim.

Audi TT Roadster

Revealed at the recent Paris Motor Show, the TT Roadster is just as good to look at as the new coupé, with the same chiselled grille and sharp headlights. But it adds a fully electric folding fabric roof, as well as an anticipated price premium of around £2,200 over the equivalent hard-top model. A storming 306bhp TTS will go on sale early next year, but engine choices at launch will be limited to the 182bhp 2.0 TDI diesel or 227bhp 2.0 TFSI petrol. A six-speed manual box is standard, or a dual-clutch S tronic auto is another £1,370. Quattro four-wheel drive is optional on the 2.0 TFSI and standard on the TTS Roadster. A potent five-cylinder TT RS is in the pipeline, too.
