Dr. Sanjeev Singh, senior medical administrator at the Amrita Institute of Medical Sciences here, told The Hindu that the actor was admitted to the hospital on Saturday night with bleeding haematemesis (vomiting of blood). The death occurred due to liver and kidney ailments, he said.
Born in Chalakudy near Thrissur, Mr. Mani began his artistic career as a mimicry artiste before leaping in to the Malayalam film industry as a comedian in various films. He later took up character and villain roles in Malayalam, Tamil and Telugu movies and earned appreciation for his acting style.
The actor was also a popular singer of folk songs and had brought out several albums. He had won special jury award for his performance in the Malayalam movie Vasanthiyum Lekshmiyum Pinne Njanum at the 47th National Film awards in the year 2000.
