China's propensity to make 'fakes' of renowned products is not news anymore. From copying phones, watches and other electronics, they have recently turned to copying cars as well. However, the 'global copycats' might be in for a legal battle with a German carmaker this time.
Word has it that Porsche is looking to sue Chinese carmaker Zotye Auto for duplicating the Macan's design in the form of the Zotye T700. Though Zotye Auto is set to offer the T700 for sale in China next year, Porsche's plans to bring in a lawsuit against them might slow that horse down.
Fact check: While the Porsche Macan gets a price tag of $89,800, the Zotye T700 will be offered with a starting price of $27,360

That said, the Sttutgart-based sportcar maker's plans to sue the Chinese carmaker apart may not be able to do much since Chinese laws for intellectual property rights are extremely fundamental. Hence, it seems Porsche will barely be able to do anything about the sale of the Macan's knockoff in China.
Another example of a Chinese carmaker ripping of a global brand's design is the LandWind X7. Interestingly, the car is not merely 'inspired', but is an exact replica of the Range Rover Evoque. To add insult to injury, LandWind debuted the X7 SUV at the famous Guangzhou Motor Show. However, unlike Porsche, Land Rover decided to not pursue the matter in a court of law.
