A journalist testing the BMW i8 in Mexico City has somehow manage to get the car onto it’s roof. The driver must have been going at some speed to get the car on it’s roof considering it’s low profile and centre of gravity.
No news has been released on how the crash happened or the extent of the injuries of driver, however the i8 is likely to have damage to it’s frame, causing it to be completely written off as a result of the damage. The journalist was lucky enough to escape the vehicle, with it’s special hinged doors only allowing a tiny amount of room to exit the vehicle while it was on it’s roof.
This looks like the end for the near £105,000 hybrid car. The car has a 1.5L turbo engine producing 228BHP. Combined with an electric engine, capable of travelling 23 miles by itself and producing an additional 129BHP, the car has a combined output of 357BHP. This power allows it to achieve a 0-60MPH time of 2.6 seconds and is limited to a top speed of 160MPH, or 75MPH from just the electric engine.
