2017 Yamaha FZ-10 Announced For Canada

Yamaha Motor Canada has announced it will offer the MT-10, bringing it over under the name FZ-10 as an early 2017 model. As of this writing, Yamaha’s American arm has not made an official announcement for the U.S. but we expect one shortly.
In Canada, the FZ-10 will retail for CN$15,499 (US$12,055). That puts it CN$3500 lower than the 2016 YZF-R1 and $1200 less expensive than the YZF-R1S.

The FZ-10 is powered by an 998cc Inline-Four derived from the R1/R1S engine. As with the R1, the FZ-10 uses four-valve cylinder head design but uses 31 mm steel intake valves instead of the 33 mm titanium intake valves on the superibike (the 26.5 mm steel exhaust valves are the same however). Intake and exhaust cam profiles and timing were altered to improve low-to-mid-range torque and power.

The engine still uses a crossplane crankshaft, but it’s heavier than the one on the R1 for improved control at low engine speeds. Yamaha modified the pistons and combustion chamber and compression ratio to make the engine more street-friendly. The FZ also uses a single set of injectors compared to the twin-injectors on the R1.

Yamaha claims a peak output of 81.8 lb-ft. at 9000 rpm for the FZ compared to 83.2 lb-ft. at 11,500 rpm for the R1. No horsepower numbers were released for the Canadian-spec FZ-10, but considering the peak torque is the same as the European specifications, we expect horsepower to be similar to the 158.2 hp at 11,500 rpm claimed on the other side of the Atlantic.

A Yamaha Chip Control Throttle handles the fueling, offering three power modes to go along with three levels of traction control. Cruise control is standard, working at speeds from 50-160 kph (31-100 mph) in fourth gear or higher.

The chassis is comprised of the R1’s deltabox frame but the rear subframe is steel instead of magnesium, so it can better support the extra weight of luggage (sold separately, of course).

The fully-adjustable KYB fork is based on the R1’s unit but with slightly revised settings. The rear wheel is suspended by a fully-adjustable monocross KYB shock with piggy-back reservoir. Both front and rear suspension offer 4.7 inches of travel.

Braking ability is provided by radial-mount four-piston calipers gripping twin 320 mm discs up front while a Nissin single-piston caliper squeezes the 220 mm rear disc. ABS is standard.

Other features include a steering damper, full LED lighting, digital LCD display, 12-volt DC connector, a 4.5-gallon fuel tank and a claimed wet weight of 463 pounds. Canadians will have a choice between a Matte Dark Metallic Gray with Black paint scheme or the Bluish Gray with yellow wheels.

Modi’s US visit: China’s growing footprint a cause of concern?

Barack Obama and Narendra Modi have "invested in developing a close relationship."

Modi paying Obama a farewell visit is being touted as a sign of growing collaboration

between the two countries.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s visit will highlight the growing collaboration between India

and the US and their “shared leadership” on the world stage, the White House said on the

eve of his arrival in Washington. “This visit celebrates the remarkable transformation in US-

India ties. Over the last seven years, the United States and India have cemented an

enduring bond of friendship, built on democratic values, open societies, and a respect for a

rules-based order,” a senior administration official told PTI. At the invitation of President

Barack Obama, Modi arrives in the US capital on Tuesday afternoon as he and Obama are

scheduled to meet at the Oval Office.

The President will host a lunch for the Prime Minister after the meeting.

“The Prime Minister’s visit will also highlight the growing collaboration between our two

countries and, more consequentially, our shared leadership on the world stage,” the official

said.

“From addressing climate change and providing clean energy solutions, to deepening our

economic and trade ties, to preserving cyberspace as an engine for growth and

development, to protecting our shared spaces on the sea, in the air, and in space, the world

is better when the United States and India lead together,” the official said.

On Wednesday, Modi will address a joint meeting of the US Congress, the first foreign

leader to do so this year and also the first to address a joint meeting of the Congress under

 Speaker Paul Ryan.

Meanwhile two leading US dailies – the New York Times and the Wall Street Journal – have

said that Obama building a relationship with Modi is primarily aimed at China.

The two leaders “have each invested in developing a close relationship”, Benjamin J

Rhodes, Deputy National Security Advisor was quoted as saying by NYT.

The daily said the US is encouraging the rise of India as a giant Asian partner to balance

China, and India is trying to accelerate its economy with an injection of investment from

 American companies.

The Wall Street Journal said among the factors propelling India-US the relationship is

China’s growing footprint in India’s traditional sphere of influence in the Indian Ocean.

The White House is looking to increase economic and defence cooperation during the visit

and to cement the new momentum in ties before turning the relationship over to the next US

 president, WSJ reported.

Since their first meeting at the White House in September 2014, after Modi came to power

in May that year, the two leaders have met six times.

Obama was the first foreign leader to congratulate Modi over the phone after his historic

victory.
“The hours they’ve spent together have allowed them to have a good understanding of their

respective worldviews and domestic circumstances, and made it possible to deepen

defence ties, advance our civil nuclear cooperation and achieve a breakthrough on climate

change,” Rhodes said, “It is also an indication of how important President Obama thinks our

relationship is with India, as the world’s largest democracy and an increasingly important

partner.”

“For each country, the other country has really emerged as an incredibly important and vital

partner,” an administration official was quoted as saying by WSJ.

“India has global interests, and it’s looking to protect those interests, but it lacks sufficient

capability to do that. So India is looking to make a big bet on the United States to help it gain

that capacity. And we are very comfortable with helping India do that,” the daily reported.

“India made a big shift under Prime Minister Modi,” the official was quoted as saying by WSJ

according to which Obama sees a gradual change in India’s role in the world as one of his

major achievements.

“I think it’s really hard to overestimate the rapid pace of progress in our defence

relationship,” the official said.

China Hits At US 'Provocations', Says Doesn't Fear 'Trouble'

The South China Sea encompasses vital global shipping routes and is believed to have significant oil and gas deposits.

HIGHLIGHTS

  1. US had warned China against more construction in the South China Sea
  2. Philippines, Brunei, Malaysia, Vietnam have competing claims to the area
  3. US has conducted patrols in the area to press for freedom of navigation

SINGAPORE:China on Sunday hit out at US "provocations" and said it does not fear "trouble" over its territorial disputes with neighbours in the South China Sea.

"The South China Sea issue has become overheated because of the provocations of certain countries for their own selfish interests," Admiral Sun Jianguo told a security summit in Singapore.

Sun spoke one day after US Defense Secretary Ashton Carter warned that Chinese construction on a South China Sea islet claimed by the Philippines would prompt unspecified "actions" by the United States and other nations.

On a visit to Mongolia Sunday, Secretary of State John Kerry also warned Beijing against setting up an air defence identification zone over the disputed waters, saying it would be a "provocative and destabilising act".

Rhetoric has escalated ahead of a ruling from the Permanent Court of Arbitration in The Hague on a case brought by the Philippines, a longtime US ally and former colony, against China, which has shunned the proceedings and says it will not recognise any ruling.

The Chinese admiral, in a clear reference to Washington, said "freedom of navigation" patrols in the South China Sea were a display of "military muscles" and that China was being forced to "accept and honour" the tribunal's ruling.

"China firmly opposes such behaviour. We do not make trouble but we have no fear of trouble," Sun, the head of the Chinese delegation to the Singapore forum known as the Shangri-La Dialogue, said in prepared remarks.

In an open forum, he addressed Pentagon chief Carter's statement on Saturday that Beijing risks building a "Great Wall of self-isolation" with its military expansion in the contested waters.

"We were not isolated in the past. We're not isolated, and we will not be isolated in the future. Actually I am worried some people and countries are still looking at China with a Cold War mentality and prejudice," the Chinese admiral said in response questions from other delegates.

"They may build a wall in their mind and end up isolating themselves," he said.

In his speech, Sun said "any countries not directly concerned are not allowed to sabotage our path of peace for selfish gains."

Competing claims

Hong Kong's South China Morning Post has reported that China plans to establish an outpost on Scarborough Shoal, located 230 kilometres (140 miles) off the Philippines, which considers it part of its exclusive economic zone.

Beijing claims nearly all of the strategically vital sea and has developed contested reefs into artificial islands, some topped with airstrips.

Manila says China took effective control of Scarborough Shoal in 2012, stationing patrol vessels and shooing away Filipino fishermen, after a two-month stand-off with the Philippine Navy.

Carter declined to elaborate when pressed on Saturday over what "actions" Washington might take.

But he also proposed stronger bilateral security cooperation with China to reduce the risks of a mishap.

Admiral Sun on Sunday repeated China's pledges to seek a peaceful solution.

Apart from the Philippines, Brunei, Malaysia and Vietnam also have competing claims in the sea, which encompasses vital global shipping routes and is believed to have significant oil and gas deposits.

Beijing's territorial claims, based on controversial historical records, have also pitted it against the United States, which has conducted patrols near Chinese-held islands to press for freedom of navigation.

Pentagon officials say two Chinese fighters last month conducted an "unsafe" intercept of a US spy plane in international air space over the South China Sea.

Housefull 3 Movie Review Rating 2016

  • Genre:
    Comedy
  • Cast:
Akshay Kumar, Abhishek Bachchan, Riteish Deshmukh, Jacqueline Fernandez, Nargis Fakhri, Lisa Haydon, Jackie Shroff, Chunky Pandey
  • Director:
    Sajid-Farhad

SPOILERS AHEAD

Like its central premise - three desperate drifters out to marry a trio of wealthy sisters weave their way in and out of trouble - Housefull 3 is painfully hackneyed and sickeningly silly.

But for a slapstick comedy that makes no bones about its lowbrow intentions, being trite and stupid is part of the game. It makes mass consumption easy but does nothing to serve the long-term cause of the genre.

Social intelligence and gender sensitivity are the last things one expects from a film like Housefull 3

Even that allowance cannot explain the sheer imbecility that is sought to be passed off here in the name of comedy.

Directed by Farhad-Sajid, the writing duo known principally for their collaborations with Rohit Shetty, Housefull 3 is loaded with gags that militate against good taste.

Women, the physically challenged and black housemaids are sitting ducks for the writers of this film. They are constant butts of ridicule.

Needless to say, large portions of Housefull 3 are repugnant because they brazenly mock mental and physical disabilities.

It does not take much for inspired lunacy to tip over into outright bunkum. Housefull 3 spares no effort to scrape the bottom of the barrel in search of comic energy. The result is a disaster.

Farhad-Sajid, writers of slapstick comedies and cop dramas, gave us a film titled Entertainment a couple of years ago. Out there, Entertainment was the name of a handsome golden retriever.

In Housefull 3, we are treated to a concoction gone to the dogs from the word go.

The film opens with an attempted diamond heist in central London by three men.

When the masks of the raiders come off, you expect to see the faces of the three lead actors behind them - Akshay Kumar, Riteish Deshmukh and Abhishek Bachchan.

You don't. The burglars turn out to be Nikitin Dheer, Samir Kochar and Arav Choudhary, three villains who do not get another look-in until rather late in the film.

That's about the only real surprise that the two-and-a-quarter-hour-long Housefull 3 has in store for the audience.

Barring moments in the goofy climax staged in a wax museum warehouse strewn with models of Jackie Chan, Rajinikanth, Barack Obama, Cristiano Ronaldo et al, this film has little that could be described as genuinely amusing.

The antics and the utterances of the principal characters - and there are a whole lot of them - are meant to be funny, but they rarely are.

Housefull 3 is the kind of film that does not believe in pauses. It hurtles down a manic course that culminates in a bizarre free-for-all.

The rigmarole begins with three sisters - Ganga (Jacqueline Fernandez), Jamuna alias Jenny (Lisa Haydon) and Saraswati alias Sarah (Nargis Fakhri) - whose shipping magnate-dad Batook Patel (Boman Irani) believes that marriage would bring ill luck to the family.

iPhone 7 Release Date, Specifications, and All Other Rumours

  • Apple iPhone 7 is expected to come with a Smart Connector.
  • The antenna bands may shift to the top and bottom edges.
  • The larger variant is tipped to sport a dual camera setup.
  •
  • Apple suppliers Foxconn and Pegatron are mass hiring workers urgently, leaks are flowing in full force, and the iPhone 7 countdown has officially begun. The most anticipated smartphone of the year is scheduled for its traditional September release, but the rumour mills have already begun toiling relentlessly to give us even the tiniest pieces of information.
Gathering from these leaks, the iPhone 7 is not expected to see any major design tweaks, except for a minor few. However, there are some significant changes that are worth a mention. We compile all the rumours and leaks that have surfaced online so far, and give you a comprehensive list of all that is expected to come with the iPhone 7 this year.
    Three variants
In 2013, Apple released two iPhones for the first time - the iPhone 5s and 5c. The following year saw a major design overhaul with Apple ditching its 4-inch smartphone size entirely, and releasing two smartphones in different sizes, the 4.7-inch iPhone 6 and 5.5-inch iPhone 6 Plus. Last year, the iPhone 6s and iPhone 6s Plus were released with software upgrades. However this year, Apple is reportedly taking it a notch further and is tipped to launch three variants namely iPhone 7, iPhone 7 Plus, and the iPhone 7 Pro/Plus Premium.
    Antenna bands
The antenna bands at the back are expected to disappear, giving the iPhone 7 and the iPhone 7 Plus a sleek simple mono-coloured back design. Leaks suggest that the bands will be shifted to the top and bottom edges instead.
    Smart Connector
There are conflicting rumours on this one. Some reports suggest that the iPhone 7 will come with theSmart Connector first introduced with the iPad Pro for connecting the Smart Keyboard Cover and other accessories like charging docks, while other leaks have shown no presence of the Smart Connector. It remains to be seen if the Smart Connector will make its way on to the iPhone 7, even if it's just the top end variant.
    3.5mm headphone jack
This has been rumoured for a while now. Apple is reportedly considering giving the 3.5mm headphone jack a miss to make the next iPhone much slimmer than its predecessors. Other reasons may include providing a better quality audio experience to users via the Lightning port. If introduced, the removal of the 3.5mm headphone jack it may be the single biggest difference for consumers. Rumours of a Bluetooth or Lightning powered set of EarPods have accompanied these leaks.
    Dual camera
While the iPhone 7 will stick to a single camera lens, the dual camera setup is expected to be embedded in the larger iPhone 7 Plus. This will be the first time Apple dabbles in the dual camera feature, and it will be interesting to see how the dual camera setup changes the quality of the pictures produced, from better low-light performance to improved colour accuracy and faster autofocus.
    3GB of RAM
To accommodate the dual camera setup, the iPhone 7 Plus will increase its RAM size to 3GB. There is no information whether the base iPhone 7 variant will receive the bump, but we sure hope it does.
    Stereo speakers
A few images have been leaked showing speaker grilles on both the sides of the Lightning port hinting that the iPhone 7 might come with stereo speakers.
    Four speakers
A recent leak has tipped that the iPhone 7 will come with two sets of stereo speakers, like the iPad Pro, on the top and bottom panels of the smartphone.
    Optical image stabilisation
While the iPhone 7 Plus is tipped to sport a dual camera setup, both the iPhone 7 and iPhone 7 Plus variants are tipped to come with optical image stabilisation (OIS).
    Slimmer than predecessor
The iPhone 7 is expected to be 1mm slimmer than its predecessor. This can happen only if Apple ditches the 3.5mm audio jack. Currently, the iPhone 6s is 7.1mm thin. The iPhone 7's metal build, height, width, and design profile will stay the same.
Needless to say, the iPhone 7 leaks will continue to pour in, and more information on the smartphone will be revealed in the coming months. However, it is recommended to take all these leaks lightly, until the official iPhone 7 launch in September - still widely held to be the launch month for this year's iPhone models.
